Handheld Confetti Cannon：How long does biodegradable confetti last?
The time it takes biodegradable confetti to disappear depends on the weather. If it is wet and the confetti is in a public area with people walking on it, it can vanish in a matter of hours. If it is dry, it will last until Mother Nature can get to work on it with wind and rain. Rest assured, it will first disintegrate into tiny, less noticeable pieces, before fully breaking down over a matter of weeks, leaving no lasting trace.
Generally, if it is a sensitive site, aim to collect what you can and what you don't get will blow away and break down naturally.
BioFetti is the second option available to you and we now supply this loaded into our hand-held cannons. We recommend this for sensitive venues and festival sites. BioFetti is water soluble confetti, so will begin to dissolve with the first rain. With heavy rain, you can watch it melt before your eyes, disappearing completely in less than an hour. Alternatively, simply wash it away with a hose. One thing to bear in mind is that it will start to dissolve in mid-air if it is raining, so we don't advise using it in wet conditions.
Finally, we have BioGlitter biodegradable metallic confetti. Please be very careful as most metallic confetti is plastic and is not biodegradable. BioGlitter is tissue based with one side shiny and the other coloured tissue and comes in 6 colours. It is not water soluble so can be used in the rain but like tissue confetti, the time it takes to disappear completely depends on the weather.
Using a hack saw, cut one piece of 2x20" PVC pipe to make the body of the air tank.
Cut another 2x4" piece of PVC pipe to connect the ball valve to the adapter fitting.
Cut a 4x6" piece of PVC pipe to hold the confetti.
Outside in a well-ventilated space, dry-fit the pieces together to check the shape before applying a coat of purple PVC primer to all connecting surfaces, following the instructions on the primer.
More than one coat may be necessary. After applying the cement, quickly stick the parts together and ¼ turn the pieces, holding them together for 30 seconds to hold. Let these pieces sit and fully cure.
Drill a hole in the side of the PVC pipe to mount the pressure gauge near the ball valve.
Re-drill the hole with larger bits until it's slightly smaller than the pressure gauge fitting, as you want it to fit tightly in place, so it doesn't blow out when the tank is pressurized. Screw in the pressure gauge using a wrench screw. Attach the air valve using the same method.
Close the ball valve, then connect your bike pump to the air valve to pressurize the air tank. Carefully pump air into the tank until you reach the desired pressure.
Fill the barrel with lightweight paper confetti colored pink (girl) or blue (boy). Tape or rubber-band a thin piece of tissue paper over the opening, so the confetti doesn't spill out before you're ready for the reveal.
Remove the end covering, aiming the cannon high into the air. Quickly open the ball valve to release the contents in a short-range burst of widely-dispersed color.

How the Handheld Confetti Cannon Works
Have an outer case made from a strong cardboard tube which contains the confetti payload, the firing mechanism and a steel cylinder.The steel cylinder is at the base of the confetti cannon threaded in to the firing mechanism (left-hand thread). The gas in the cylinder (which is pressurised to about 19 bar) is contained with a rubber bung. The bung is held in place by a mental flap which is secured by a small flange on the outside of the cannon. When the base of the cannon is rotated the flange moves releasing the flap and in turn releases the bung . The gas in the cylinder is expelled instantly pushing the confetti up though the tube into the air.

Concert venues with high-vaulted ceilings may accommodate handheld confetti and streamer cannons, but use in an outdoor area with sufficient space is ideal. If using indoors, be sure the area is clear of any obstructions-such as overhead light fixtures.
Aim away from people and faces
When operating a handheld confetti cannon, always point it upward and away from people--as the compressed air can shoot confetti up to 20 feet into the air. Make sure to create a safe distance between yourself and others before releasing the confetti.
Check for wind conditions
Before using the handheld confetti cannon, assess wind conditions. If the wind is too strong, it is advisable to postpone using it for another celebration.
Hand position and twist
Place left hand on upper portion of the cannon above the arrows. Place your right hand on the lower portion of the cannon below the arrows. Rotate the upper portion of the cannon clockwise and the rotate the lower portion of the cannon counterclockwise.
Avoid obstructing the barrel
Keep the barrel clear at all times. Do not place your hand or any other objects in the way of the confetti's release.

Types of Fillers for Hand-Held Confetti Cannons
Biodegradable tissue confetti
The traditional option is tissue confetti. This is fully biodegradable and will leave no lasting trace. The time it takes to disappear depends on the weather. If it is wet and the confetti is in a public area with people walking on it, it can break down in a matter of hours. If it is dry, it will last until mother nature can get to work on it with wind and rain, then it will fully break down over a matter of weeks. When composted, it has been tested to break down in three months.
Water soluble confetti
Biofetti is water soluble confetti, so will begin to dissolve with the first rain. With heavy rain, it can be gone in a matter of hours. Alternatively, wash it away with a hose and it will be gone in no time at all. One thing to bear in mind is that it will start to dissolve in mid-air if it is raining, so we don't advise using it in wet conditions.
Bioglitter metallic confetti
Bioglitter is tissue based, with one shiny side and one coloured tissue side. This gives a wonderful flickering effect as the confetti tumbles through the air. It comes in a range of six colours and can be used both indoors and out. Like standard tissue confetti, it will take time for it to entirely disappear, but rest assured, it will fully biodegrade and vanish completely.
