How Firecrackers Are Made

The traditional process of making firecrackers is divided into three parts: barrel making, gunpowder making, and lead making.
Gun body
Paper cutting: In workshops, the firecracker body is called a "tube", and paper cutting is the process of cutting firecracker paper into tubes according to certain specifications;
Pulling the tube: Roll the cut firecracker paper into an empty tube, and the main tool for pulling the tube is a stool made of sturdy wood;
Bang tube: A layer of colored paper is added to the surface of an empty tube, initially for waterproofing purposes, but later more for decorative purposes. Bang tube paper is mostly made of red paper produced in Baoqing (Shaoyang), or Guanghong paper or waxed paper;
Washing cylinder: Tie the paper cylinder into a hexagonal cake shape with hemp rope to facilitate the calculation of the number of cylinders;
Waist tube: The tied paper tube is very long and needs to be cut short. Use a broad knife to cut it from the waist of the cake and cut one tube horizontally into two tubes;
Upper tube: Fill the cut paper tube with soil and nitrate; Drilling: Use an iron drill to tightly build each tube, and then drill holes for each tube to place leads;
Insertion: Insert each insertion hole into the lead wire;
Tie the neck: After inserting the lead into the guide hole, tie the tube at one end of the guide tightly to prevent the lead from loosening;
Knot whip: After making individual firecrackers, they need to be tied together with cotton thread, because their shape resembles a whip, hence the name firecrackers;
Sealing and Boxing: Carefully package the assembled firecrackers.
